GOT QUESTIONS?

Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling based art that focus on joint locks, strangles, and controlling positions. Muay Thai is a striking focused art that uses the entire body to create effective strikes. MMA is the combination of striking and grappling. It allows flowing seamlessly between combat ranges with striking and grappling.

Classmates come from all backgrounds, sizes, abilities, genders and experiences. Much of the work we do requires practicing with classmate, because combat is always with another individual. We pride ourselves on the friendly community and team spirit we have built over the years.

I like the encouraging atmosphere and that nobody acts surprised or pats me on the back for being a girl and training hard.

The Academy is a fantastic place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The facility is exceptionally clean, there are facilities not found in most gyms (showers, sauna, cold plunge, extra forgiving mats, ample training space, weights…). Hospitality here is top notch. Rolling with all levels both gi and nogi was a respectful but tough, technical, and safe. The crew was fun and generous about answering every question I had.

I went to The Academy for a couple of months for BJJ. The coaches were excellent. very knowledgable with real tournament experience. The atmosphere very friendly; the students quite motivated. I take my martial arts seriously and I was invited to the higher level program very quickly. Unfortunately, my job moved to Shakopee and I moved to all the way down to Burnsville. Since I was at the end of my two month refund period, they refunded the full amount, no troubles. I wish they would open up a southern suburb school because they ain't no mc'dojo.

I started coming to the Academy about 6 months ago I was around 280 pounds I'm down to around 248, I know some of that is also an increase in muscle mass. When I started I could barely run 1/4 of a mile. Recently I ran over 3 miles no problem. They have me doing circuits that are all pretty hard, but helped me get to this level. When I came in I wasn't sure if I wanted to just train to lose weight or just become a stronger person, or fight or some other goal and the whole staff has been really helpful with me figuring out my goals. I have definitely become a stronger more confident person and my character is definitely more complete. I've got more energy & I really feel like I could take on anything. I would like to thank the Academy guys for helping me!!!

My experience with The Academy has been amazing, I've traveled and trained all over the U.S. and a few places abroad. I can honestly tell you that the coaches here understand the arts they are teaching from front to back. They've gone to the places where these arts are practiced daily and learned from the source (Brazil, Japan, Thailand, etc.) "Water is the purest at the top of the Mountain" these guys have made that trek and are bringing it to you! A major difference in the approach here is the quality of technique. Every individual from the newest to the most experienced is on quest for improvement. Coach Greg has said to me "The strength of the Pack is in the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is in the Pack" it truly is a group of individuals working together to improve one another. The Martial Arts have changed my life, I'm very thankful for The Academy, it's helped me continue to grow.

Little Dragons I My 10 year old grandson attends the Little Dragons I classes at The Academy in Brooklyn Center. I feel a need to write about the experience as I often take him to the classes and have found the four instructors for this class to be simply amazing. The martial arts teachers are Charles Roberts (head), Ryan Deotis, Jason Gulden, & Matthew Scribner. The Little Dragon classes serve a diverse group of kids designed to develop discipline, respect, fitness, and teamwork – while learning self defense skills. What really impresses me most about the instructors is how much they seem to care about the kids and their development. They also understand how important it is at this age to make classes fun while encouraging the kids to achieve. It is simply inspiring for me to watch these martial arts professionals teach with patience and heart. You will frequently see Head coach Charles Roberts embracing one of the students for working hard to achieve something. It is so obvious that the work here is personal and, in my opinion, goes beyond the teaching of martial arts. I am grateful that my grandson is having this experience. Many thanks to these four amazing coaches!!!! One grateful grandpa, Tom Pellegrino
